Vera da Pozzo, an Italian expat in Paris.

From the Island of the Sun to the Isle of France.

My pseudonym Vera da Pozzo is a pun alluding to what I care about most : truth and loyalty, depth and insight. In my mother tongue, the syntagma "vera da pozzo" means a puteal, but it could be a female name followed by a family name. Water is indispensable for living, and we need to keep it pure and unpolluted; it is the same for truth.
I write in English because I love this language since my childhood and also because English allows me to have a more detached view on both Italy and France. The title of my personal website and blog is a paraphrasis of the verse "England is mine and it owes me a living", from Morrissey's song "Still Ill", released in The Smiths debut album "The Smiths" on 20th February 1984. As Italy had nothing to offer to young people like me, I decided to throw my arms around Paris, as Oscar Wilde did, and I am still here. Like francophone actor Lino Ventura, I am and I will always be Italian.

Stronger Alone

Most people crave for company Because they cannot stand alone But when they are in trouble There will be nobody around The flock surrenders to fear And starts to follow the herd Only the Brave stands alone Heart and Brain bold and strong Vera da Pozzo Paris, 8th June 2026 Poem above and photos below by me. Happy Birthday, Charles "the Singing Fool" Trenet

To me, Charles Trenet is THE French singer and songwriter, the one who put Poetry and Popular song together and also the most beautiful French singing voice. If my plans had worked as I had intended, I would have moved to Dublin instead of Paris, but, even if I have always had more affinity with Ireland (and the UK) and English language, I have like French language too and I have always been fascinated by the old good time when France still creates artists, poets, great singe

I shall overcome

A very rainy day, especially in the afternoon, but this morning I had the chance to enjoy a one-hour promenade in my beloved and deserted Parisian park. How I was glad to enjoy to be there in complete solitude - but not alone, because there are hundreds and hundreds of friends in leaves, petals or feathers who are happy to meet me again. While I was peacefully walking, suddenly a verse, then another, came to my mind and I wrote a short poem on a tissue, with the help of my de

Aisling Trí Néallaibh: Clouded Reveries

During my school holidays in Paris, I am glad to have had the chance to go to the Irish Cultural Centre tonight and watch Clouded Reveries by Ciara Nic Chormaic: a stunning interview-documentary with and about the poet and essayist Doireann Ní Ghríofa, an interesting figure in the Irish literary world. I would have loved to meet her but there was just the director, a resident artist at the Irish Cultural Centre: Ciara Nic Chormaic is a lovely and friendly lady - as all the Ir

Sing and Shine, Fantastic Bird

See You soon in Rotterdam! To YOU Vera da Pozzo Paris, 17th February 2026 Above: Morrissey in Frankfurt tonight, while singing Lost , a song I love so much, which haunts me since last August, after the end of the European tour. This beautiful photo was taken and sent to me by M. from Lyon: she attended the concert in Hambourg too and tonight she is in the first row. I am very happy for her and very grateful for the picture she has sent me. I think she could have waited the en

Amazing in Hamburg: my first Morrissey's gig in 2026

Bluebird of Happiness. I'll soon return to Paris because I am not on holidays yet, but how I would love to be in Frankfurt tomorrow... It was such a joy to see Morrissey arriving at the Sporthalle greeting, bowing and smiling at us, and pleased to see a Perfect Blue bird of Happiness on his left eyebrow. It was quite strange and a bit funny to see Morrissey from above, like he sees us from the stage; I would have loved to see him nearer, but we were twenty people or more an

The Boy with many Thorns in both Sides - Saint Sebastian

As I am going to work, I have just the time to post my favourite artwork inspired by Saint Sebastian: the stunningly beautiful picture by the great Renaissance painter Antonello from Messina. I was a very young and extremely curious child who found the best nourishment in books, art and music, and I have always been fascinated by the iconography of Saint Sebastian, and Antonello's masterwork is my favourite because of Sebastian's stoic expression of resignation and His inner

Vernissage

Thank God, and against all odds, I managed to finish my artwork on Wednesday evening, just in time for the collective exhibition in Paris. My drawings were ready the day before but, as I had to get up very early to go to work on Wednesday, I had to put up the whole artwork and write the message (which is also its title) in the evening, during the vernissage. Even if it was absolutely not planned - and, to be honest, I would rather have my artwork already on the wall - it was
