Vera da Pozzo, an Italian expat in Paris.

From the Island of the Sun to the Isle of France.

My pseudonym Vera da Pozzo is a pun alluding to what I care about most : truth and loyalty, depth and insight. In my mother tongue, the syntagma "vera da pozzo" means a puteal, but it could be a female name followed by a family name. Water is indispensable for living, and we need to keep it pure and unpolluted; it is the same for truth.
I write in English because I love this language since my childhood and also because English allows me to have a more detached view on both Italy and France. The title of my personal website and blog is a paraphrasis of the verse "England is mine and it owes me a living", from Morrissey's song "Still Ill", released in The Smiths debut album "The Smiths" on 20th February 1984. As Italy had nothing to offer to young people like me, I decided to throw my arms around Paris, as Oscar Wilde did, and I am still here. Like francophone actor Lino Ventura, I am and I will always be Italian.

Here comes the Sun

Please, don't worry about me Don't ask me about Paris: I'm doing fine, taking time, And - for just a little while - I want to forget Paris And enjoy just being alive. Vera da Pozzo Somewhere in the North of Italy 26.10.26 To an Italian guy who worries about me because of the Puppets' Riot and has sent me three e-mails in two weeks. He certainly will not read this poem, as I jealously keep my blog behind a curtain of mystery: I do not talk about it and the decision to express

I feel your Presence

My Dear Friend, I feel Your Loving Presence Your Arms like a Shield Gently wrapping Me Your Tender Embrace Is not like a Lace But the Purest Knot One can Dream about No Evil, no Harm Could ever reach Me: Your Touch can disarm Every Enemy Your Voice, Strong and Warm, Guides Me through the Storm And soothing my Mind Leaves the Gloom behind To YOU Vera da Pozzo Somewhere in the North of Italy 24th October 2026 Poem above and photograph below by me, taken this morning, while writ

Who cares about Them?

I am tired of the Human Rage And I need to turn the Page The Train is running so fast That Cows and Calves are just White Spots on a Green Landscape And I know They cannot escape I see Them, so Peaceful and Quiet While in Paris it's Chaos and Riot People want to rest in Peace After having lived through Wars While They want to live in Peace And to die when Nature calls I look from the Train at these Charolaises And I wonder Who cares about Them I certainly do, and I dream of a

The Sun has melted the Fog Who kept the Sky captive And now I can see your Eyes In all their Light Blue Brightness Dear Wise Man, now Centenarian How I wish I could rewind Time And unchain my captive Mind Print my Poems and my Drawings Without any Hesitation And allow You to give Me Your Farewell Gift - the Book You wanted so bad to publish For You knew I should be known Despite my Modesty and Shyness But I was wrapped up in the Fog Of the complete Antithesis of Love Who dail

Eighteen Months - A Dove from Above

Eighteen Months without You Never will I get through But I know, I do know When I see a White Dove It is You from Above And I stop feeling low. To the Unique and Irreplaceable One Vera da Pozzo On the rails 17th October A. D. MMXXVI Poem and detail of the artwork above by me. I drew it on my diary early this afternoon in Paris: it is more a sketch than a proper drawing because I had a very short time before leaving the Ville Lumière, but I love the non finito effect and also

Live and Be

Come here Without fear There is nothing to Prove to nobody Don't impress Just express And never crave For attention Don't you see? Live and be For nothing else Matters to me Vera da Pozzo Paris, 4th October 2026 I could not help writing something today: the incipit of this poem popped into my head when I woke up, as a ray of light in the haze of the cold I have caught; and, when the Inspiration calls, all I can do is to write. Poem and short article above by me, as the pictur

Another Message for You

In Memory of Federico Aldrovandi

The Summer has just ended But the Weather is still warm On this Night of September You say Goodbye to your Friends You don't know it's a Farewell Alone, You're walking back Home A Smile on your Childlike Face You are just eighteen years old Never again You'll see your Mom And You will never grow old Federico Aldrovandi Your Name could fit to A Middle-Ages Knight But you are just a Boy Born in the Eighties Caught in the Night By four Murderers In Bloody Uniforms Who'd make blu

Standing firm, and More messages to cheer me up

Standing firm A Hard Day's Night But it's all right Far from the Fight Mr. Shankly Standing blankly Is so frankly Unanointed Disappointed And Disjointed For I resist And rise my Fist And still persist Vera da Pozzo Paris , 23rd September 2026 Poem above and photo below by me. Beauté en banlieue. Even in the ugliest places I can find Beauty, like this shiny Moon at 8 P. M. When I was finally back to Paris, I felt I would have found more messages to cheer me up, so I had a look

I stand firm

I was walking in my Park Surrounded by the Trees When I felt your Presence Running through my Legs Up to my Arms and Shoulders As Shivers of Joy and Delight Just like the Pure Pleasure that The Fresh Breeze and the Warm Sun Give Me on a Late Summer Saturday You are Nature, my Friend; and so am I And the Brave Sequoia which stands Tall As a Link between the Earth and the Sky Reminds Me of your Precious Words Whatever the Hell happens in my Life I stand Firm, Proud and True to

Let the Gaslighters rot in the Darkness

Let the Gaslighters Rot in the Darkness: They belong there And nowhere else Look after your Light And always shine bright As the Sun in the Sky: You are born to fly high. Vera da Pozzo Paris, 5th September 2026 My poem tackles and kicks evil and stupid people at the workplace, but gaslighters can be found everywhere human beings are and they will never change, because the only happiness they know comes from the perverse pleasure they take in gaslighting and spreading false ru
