Vera da Pozzo, an Italian expat in Paris.

From the Island of the Sun to the Isle of France.

My pseudonym Vera da Pozzo is a pun alluding to what I care about most : truth and loyalty, depth and insight. In my mother tongue, the syntagma "vera da pozzo" means a puteal, but it could be a female name followed by a family name. Water is indispensable for living, and we need to keep it pure and unpolluted; it is the same for truth.
I write in English because I love this language since my childhood and also because English allows me to have a more detached view on both Italy and France. The title of my personal website and blog is a paraphrasis of the verse "England is mine and it owes me a living", from Morrissey's song "Still Ill", released in The Smiths debut album "The Smiths" on 20th February 1984. As Italy had nothing to offer to young people like me, I decided to throw my arms around Paris, as Oscar Wilde did, and I am still here. Like francophone actor Lino Ventura, I am and I will always be Italian.

A Tiring and Tedious Day ends A Solitary Gull greets Me His elegant Wings shine While He dances in the Sky And I feel Your Loving Presence As a Powerful Protection Vera da Pozzo 9.9.2026 Poem above by me. [Update - 14th September 2026] Photo below taken by me in Dublin in 2025, the day before Morrissey's concert at the 3 Arena. I took this picture at Merrion Square, after having visited Oscar Wilde's house. Even if the Irish seagull is just meditating in the shade and not fly

Let the Gaslighters rot in the Darkness

Let the Gaslighters Rot in the Darkness: They belong there And nowhere else Look after your Light And always shine bright As the Sun in the Sky: You are born to fly high. Vera da Pozzo Paris, 5th September 2026 My poem tackles and kicks evil and stupid people at the workplace, but gaslighters can be found everywhere human beings are and they will never change, because the only happiness they know comes from the perverse pleasure they take in gaslighting and spreading false ru

Quiet, Peaceful Wisdom against Stupid, Violent Rage

A thought and an artwork by me, followed by some quotes by great people from the last century related to my reflections. In most cases, what drives people to spend all their time and energy in the attempt of ruining other people's lives by defaming, harassing and bullying them is not just envy, but a desperate need to fill their inner void, because they are unable to do something worthy and meaningful in their own lives. Vera da Pozzo, 18th August 2026 Below: a drawing I made

Serenity and Serendipity - "Ogni impedimento è giovamento"

My adventurous trip from Paris to Berlin. More and more Good Things to come

A quiet early morning In my dearest Park Before the heat Starts to hit Through the drops Kissing the leaves A little Rainbow Quickly appears On the fresh wet grass The Blackbird looks at Me And his gentle, soulful gaze Says : "Hello, my Saviour! I'm always glad to see You And I'll remember forever You were my Lucky Escape From the Ravens' Attack. I know Evil People harm You But They will never soil You Because You are Brave and Stronger than the Vile Mob. Enjoy the Good You

Stronger Alone

Most people crave for company Because they cannot stand alone But when they are in trouble There will be nobody around The flock surrenders to fear And starts to follow the herd Only the Brave stands alone Heart and Brain bold and strong Vera da Pozzo Paris, 8th June 2026 Poem above and photos below by me. A brave and proud tiny flower of geranium sylvaticum in my beloved Parisian park. A solitary Magpie, alone, but not lonely. Somewhere in Paris, Eve is perfectly happy with

I shall overcome

A very rainy day, especially in the afternoon, but this morning I had the chance to enjoy a one-hour promenade in my beloved and deserted Parisian park. How I was glad to enjoy to be there in complete solitude - but not alone, because there are hundreds and hundreds of friends in leaves, petals or feathers who are happy to meet me again. While I was peacefully walking, suddenly a verse, then another, came to my mind and I wrote a short poem on a tissue, with the help of my de

Life blooms in front of cemetery gates

I can't help noticing Beauty everywhere, wherever I am, even in front of cemetery gates - i. e., school gates. Photos below taken by me somewhere far from Paris. A Jay on my Way

Detail of a drawing I made on my diary today, after the unexpected meeting with a beautiful Jay near my favourite tree in my beloved Parisian park. Below, my drawing in its whole. As usual, I drew directly with a Bic pen without doing a preparatory sketch. As the jays wear a very beautifully coloured suit, I used my coulour glitter pens to add a touch of colour to this fantastic bird. I love every kind of animals and I am deeply fascinated by all types of birds and other flyi

Felice 2026! Happy 2026! It takes Courage to be Happy

2025 is over. Welcome, 2026! Two good quotes for a Happy New Year. The first quote, by an anonymous author, is often written on mural street art in Italy: Per essere felici ci vuole coraggio. It takes courage to be happy. As I haven't found the source of this quote, I do not trust the vague, non sourced informations found on Internet, attributing this phrase either to Karen Blixen or to Martha Woodroof. Few days ago, I saw and took a picture of a decorative magnet with this s

Wisdom and Beauty overcome Sadness

I could not tell why, when I was a child, Gente di Dublino (the Italian translation of Dubliners ) by James Joyce appealed to me so...
