Playgrounds and little kids in music videos from my early childhood
Friday. As the rain fell hard just in the late afternoon, I could enjoy a fresh morning with the sun playing pick-a-boo from behind the clouds, while having a pleasant walk and taking few photos of flowers and places.
This playground (see photo below) makes me think of the music video of Playground Twist (1979) by Siouxsie and the Banshees: four decades later, I was reminded of it by Morrissey's pre-show at Vicar Street in 2023. Astoundingly, even if I had seen it only once, when I was a small toddler, this song and its clip were stuck somewhere in my mind. I was certainly at my cousin's family home, for they already had a colour TV, while we still had a black-and-white one.

When I was a child, I really hated to watch kids singing: I felt they were forced to, like animals in circuses; and it was even worse if they were singing with their parents, like Nikka Costa or the Brazilian kid singing with his father Io e te, the music theme of Beppe Grillo's RAI show Te lo do io il Brasile, in 1984. I had to search the video on YouTube for the link above, but I could not last more than thirty seconds: it is so shmaltzy that it makes me puke and the only reason I watched it, at that time, was the beautiful Aras, even if I would have preferred to see them in a documentary, as free as every bird should be.
[To be continued tomorrow: I am singing tonight]
Article in fieri and photo by me, of course.
