Messages to cheer me up

This afternoon, on Morrissey Central, a post with a short article about the making of Morrissey's eight studio album Ringleader of the Tormentors (2006) recorded in Rome twenty-one years ago, with a nice picture and a tiny, funny message of thanks to Jed Weitzman. The title of this post, You must please remember, is a reference to the second song (the first one is Nobody loves Us) on the B-side of Dagenham Dave, which was released as a single on 21 August 1995, seven days before the album Southpaw Grammar.

Comme par hasard, this evening Morrissey has posted on Central another message (Joyeux anniversaire) about the anniversary of Southpaw Grammar, a beautiful album showing interesting experimentations that I discovered eight years later because, since the closing down of RaiStereoUno radio station in 1991 and RaiStereoNotte in 1994, the glorious era of its niche music broadcast "Stereodrome" was over, and RaiRadioDue station was too much commercial to air Morrissey's songs.

I should have liked the "Madchester" and "Cool Britannia" stuff, as the kids of my generation did, but I have never been like the others, thus I was completely indifferent to Oasis, Blur & Co: their music says nothing to me about my life and I would never spend a cent nor a pence for the Oasis cash-grab reunion; moreover, I have always found the Gallagher brothers' madness (booze, drugs, violent quarrels) completely uninteresting, whilst I was very frustrated by the absence of news about Morrissey's music.

As for the radio airing, as Morrissey was an outsider and his music did not appeal to the new trends and fabricated tastes, it was not much better in the UK than in Italy; and another reissue of the beautiful, underrated Southpaw Grammar, after the one that happened in 2009, is not planned.

Morrissey's quote from his stunning and touching Smiths song Asleep closes his message on Central, expressing a sort of disenchanted hope about a new release of Southpaw Grammar.

Thank you, Morrissey, for this posts which cheer me up, just few days before my come-back to work.
