I love my birthday date, but if I had to choose another day to be born, it certainly would be 29th February : I have always found fascinating to be born on this rare day, even if it's quite frustrating, three years out of four, one can't celebrate one's own birthday on one's very birthday date.
The Italian composer Gioachino Rossini was born on 29th February 1792 in Pesaro; he moved to Paris in 1824 and he died at Passy on 13th November 1868. Buried at the Père Lachaise Cemetery, his remains came back to Italy in 1887, to found a well-deserved place in the monumental florentine Basilica of Santa Croce, a sort of Pantheon of famous Italians patriots, writers and artists.
Artwork made by me last Sunday on my diary with a black Bic pen, as usual.
Picture of a friend of mine, taken in my favourite Parisian park two weeks ago.
2024 is not only a leap year (or bissextile year, for the "latin lovers") but also the year of a special anniversary: sixty years ago, in 1964, Emanuele "Lele" Luzzati (1921-2007) and Giulio Gianini (1927-2009) created their masterpiece: La Gazza ladra - Omaggio a Rossini, a jewel of short animated film.
